Dead Snow 2009

OK it's time for me to review a foreign horror movie.  A lot of people bypass foreign films because they don't want to be bothered reading sub-titles, I know because I used to be like that.  That's a big mistake because there's plenty of great foreign films of all kinds, not just horror, that people should really see.  In the past few years in the horror genre alone there have been really good foreign flicks like Let the Right One In, The Host, The Orphanage, The Devil's Backbone and this really neat Nazi-Zombie horror movie from Norway, Dead Snow.

Dead Snow is the story of a bunch of friends that go to the mountains on their Easter break to go skiing.  The place they go to is, unfortunately for them, near a mountain escape route that the Nazi's used in WW2.  Not only that, there are Nazi Zombies crawling all over these hills. What ensues is what takes place in any other zombie or teen slasher type movie, the bad guys try to kill everyone in sight.

The humor in this movie is great, it doesn't overwhelm the action which is always a good idea and humanizes all the people involved.  It's also cool that throughout the movie there are references in bits of dialogue to many American horror films.   The gore is pretty much over the top at times but hey, we're dealing with Nazi Zombies here so things have to get a bit messy.

Dead Snow is a fun movie and really worth a watch.  I give it a "B".
