Night of the Creeps is pretty much what the more recent movie, Slither, is based on. The story revolves around an object striking the earth outside of a small town. Alien parasites that are dislodged from the object infect anyone they can get into. The movie starts in the 1950's and the parasites are kept dormant for 30 years in a frozen body they took over.
In the mid-1980's two college students needing a body to join a local fraternity, accidentally release the frozen body and the parasites start killing and taking over humans, mostly the local college students. The parasites are almost identical to the fast moving giant slug type ones you see in Slither.
This is a great movie. The mix of horror and comedy is pulled off perfectly. Tom Atkins as Detective Cameron is terrific. He's been in plenty of other horror movies but this is where he made his name. Atkins plays the hard boiled detective that can't get over things that happened years before and when not trying to figure out what's going on at the college, he's trying to kill himself.
The B movie dialogue that he spots is classic and Night of the Creeps is the type of movie drive-ins were made for. I give it an A, don't miss it.
